It is 7:42pm on Thursday evening and I am wiped. We’ve been up since 3:30am because our flight to Boulder left at 6am and it feels like that was days ago! But now we’re safe and sound in Eric’s parents’ house and I can catch you up on life lately.
Goodness, I haven’t posted since I was still in school! I think I’m going to restart “life lately” posts every week, just because I love getting to know other bloggers through those sorts of posts. And also because wayyy too much happens in a month to write down in one post–today I’ll just be telling you about life since we got back from college (ten days ago)!
Thankfulness lately: A very belated Happy Thanksgiving to you all! I was feeling particularly thankful last Thursday that Eric and I got to spend Thanksgiving together for the second time. We spent the morning cooking (well, I spent part of the morning bemoaning a poor burnt pie :P), took a quick walk with my mom and sister at the local nature preserve, then headed to my dad’s house for the big meal!
There were 17 people there in total, including three toddlers. Craziness. But there was so much good food and conversation that the madness was definitely worth it. I’m so thankful, too, that I got to spend Thanksgiving with my dad for the first time in nine years.
Christmas prepping lately: You guys… I get to decorate *four* Christmas trees this year! 😛 I love pulling out all of the old ornaments and hearing about where they came from–yup, I’m one of those people. We got the tree at my dad’s house (above) and my mom’s house (below) last weekend, and Eric’s family is doing an artificial and a real tree this year. You may now hire me to be your professional tree decorator.
Celebrations lately: I turned 22 yesterday! (And no, I did not listen to the Taylor Swift song even once.) I celebrated at my dad’s house last weekend, before Silvia left for a conference, and my dad made the most incredible gluten-free cheesecake. It was perfectly light and fluffy, albeit very lactose-y. 🙂
On Tuesday, we drove down to our college town to spend the evening with some friends working on campus over break. I didn’t take any pictures, but it was a great time. We brought these healthy ginger cookies, and I daresay not one person could tell that they were healthier in the slightest! Southern In-Law strikes again.
Yesterday I celebrated with my mom’s family and opened gifts from afar, too. A special thank-you to Megan, who sent me the care package above, and to Kristy, who sent me some excellent chocolates (I was too busy eating them to take a picture :P). I felt very loved and I am so blessed to have friends like you! <3
My grandparents came over for dinner–we had falafel–and mom made my favorite chocolate carrot cake for dessert. All in all it was a lovely day (except for the fact that I couldn’t sleep in the next morning!).
Health lately: I am so excited to get back to “normal life” after the past week and even more excited that I feel that way. I’m craving fresh foods (and getting back to my IBS-friendly diet), being productive, and even working out a bit. And the reason that’s exciting is because I haven’t felt seriously motivated to practice self-care, work on the blog, practice photography, eat in a way that makes me feel good, work out, or really improve my life in any way for a sustained period of time… probably since January?
2016 looks good on paper for me: good grades, finishing my thesis, great internship, lots of travels. To be honest, though, I’ve struggled with fatigue, serious brain fog, and being on an emotional rollercoaster for pretty much the entire year. A combination of stress, digestive and hormonal troubles threw me for a loop and I haven’t been able to do as much as I wanted to outside of school and work. Actually, I can’t tell you how many times I considered quitting Carleton this year. But I think that I’m finally on the upswing due to a number of reasons–and it feels amazing. 🙂 More on that to come!
But how have you been prepping for the holidays? How many people were at your Thanksgiving? And what’s been happening in your world lately?!
